Holiday Traditions: What’s on Your List? (Giveaway 12/16)

Well, the holiday season is in full swing, and the hustle and bustle threatens to overwhelm me at times. Despite the overt commercialism of Christmas, I still love the season all the same.

Christmas was always an amazing time for us as children. My family has roots in both Italian and French-Canadian culture, and we melded the two together in each holiday celebration. My Mom went to unbelievable lengths decorating our home, baking wonderful treats, and picking out gifts with unbelievable care.

After she passed away in 2006, I was somewhat adrift. I could not imagine Christmas without her. Our traditional family Christmas changed drastically, and that made me sad. After having children, I realized that no matter what, our Christmas traditions were going to change anyway.

This year, we went to the Christmas tree farm with our sons and they helped pick out a tree. This is the third year we have done the trip, and it has become part of our new Christmas tradition. We get up early on Christmas morning with our boys and watch the joy in their faces as they open their gifts. It’s amazing, and a whole new aspect to our holiday traditions. After gift opening, my husband makes a delicious Christmas breakfast, and then the boys play with their new presents for the rest of the day. It’s a glorious, exciting, happy day.

Shielo Volumizing Shampoo Review/Giveaway (Can/US 12/11)

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will know that I am a beauty product junkie. I adore trying out new products, and seeing what is new and interesting. So I was quite happy to hear that I would be given the opportunity to sample a new product called Shielo Volumizing Shampoo.

This shampoo is designed to remove styling product residue without fading hair color. It contains biotin, which is an amino acid which strengthens hair. Unique to this shampoo are nanofilaments, which penetrate deep into the hair shaft, strengthening hair from the root. Other key ingredients include soy protein (which gives fine hair structure) and hyaluronic acid which strengthens hair.

This shampoo has a nice, light fragrance which is not overpowering. It lathers well, and rinses easily. I used it for a period of about 2 consecutive weeks, and found that it did a good job of cleaning my hair. My hair is very dry and frizzy, and so I need a shampoo which is effective at both cleaning and moisturizing. I found that this shampoo did both, and I was very pleased with the results.

Lady Soma Renewal Serum — Review/Giveaway (11/22)

I am not by any means vain, or overly concerned with my appearance, but skin care is something about which I am passionate. Ever since I was in my twenties, I have used moisturizers and sunscreen on my face religiously. I don’t ever go outside without sunscreen on my face and neck. One of the leading causes of wrinkles in women is exposure to UV rays (ie sunshine and tanning beds). Getting older is a drag, and I don’t want to hasten the process by letting my skin get all wrinkled and gross!

So I was very happy when I learned I was going to be able to test out a new skin care product, namely a facial serum. Lady Soma Renewal Serum is formulated with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, grape extract and many other plant extracts to nurture and repair your skin. This serum is meant to help with skin discoloration and photoaging. It is a very concentrated liquid which is applied to the face and neck every morning and evening on freshly cleansed skin. The manufacturers of Lady Soma Renewal Serum also add that the hyaluronic acid helps to promote the production and of hydration of skin cells.

I followed directions to the letter, and have used the serum everyday since I received it. I apply a small amount (literally about the size of a pea) to my face and neck every morning and night after I wash my face. I was not sure what would happen to my skin, but I am all for adding these natural nutrients to nourish my dermal layers!

I am thrilled to say that I have been pleasantly surprised by the effect of this serum. Since using it for 2 consecutive weeks, my skin seems to glow! Literally! I also feel as though my skin coloration is more even, which was another happy result of using this product. After using a facial serum for this length of time, I am sold on its benefits, and will be making it part of routine from here on in!

Dog Trots Globe: To Paris and Provence (Review/Giveaway) (Can/US 11/12)

As a book lover and dog owner, I was thrilled to be able to review a book filled with wonderful photographs, and written from the perspective of a dog. Yes, that’s right, a dog, an adorable Sheltie named Chula. Dog Trots Globe is the story of Chula (and his owner’s) trip to France, as written from the view of the pooch.

Dog Trots Globe chronicles Chula’s trip starting from the plane ride in California, to France, and back again. The books is filled with 150 beautiful color photographs of everything from the Eiffel Tower at night to the beautiful lavender fields of Provence. Also, if you love dogs, you’ll love all the photographs of Chula (so sweet!) and all the canine friends he meets in his travels.

This was a wonderful read, for both children and adults. My kids were a bit young for the book, but I imagine it would be a fantastic read for kids in the 9-10 year old range. The conversational tone of the book and the luscious photographs make it a joy to read. Even as an adult, I was absolutely charmed by the book, and will certainly read it again as I dream of someday (hopefully!) travelling to France.
