Probiotic supplements have become very mainstream in recent years. When I started working in health care a decade ago, probiotics were very much a niche product, often only used by people on the recommendation of their physician. Fast forward to today, and modern science is beginning to appreciate the importance of healthy bacteria, and how they help our GI tracts. Probiotics contain healthy bacteria which help to keep harmful bacteria in check throughout our digestive system.
I have sampled a couple different products in recent years, but the Microbiome+ Probiotic is the first type that I have tried which is packaged together with a prebiotic fiber. It is thought that prebiotic fibers work together with probiotic bacteria to help regulate digestive function, gut wall integrity, and the overall health of the immune system. Each week of Microbiome+ GI supplement is packaged in a box which contains 2 blister packed sleeves of pills. Each sleeve contains 7 probiotic capsules and 7 prebiotic fiber tablets. There are two sleeves of tablets included in each box because it is recommended that this supplement be taken twice daily.
This supplement is literally PACKED with probiotic bacteria. In fact, it contains 3.5 billion CFU of Lactobacillus reuteri per capsule. This is not some middling probiotic. These capsules are seriously packed with good bacteria.
I used the Microbiome + GI supplement for a few weeks. I will say up front that I did not use the supplement twice daily as indicated on the package. This was for two reasons. Firstly, I don’t have underlying gastrointestinal problems which might necessitate using it this much. Secondly, I take all my medication and supplements once daily, in the morning because of convenience.
While using this supplement I felt good, not much different from usual, but this is probably due to my overall good baseline health. When I get stressed, I tend to get upset stomach and digestive irregularities, so taking a single probiotic a day is more a form of nutritional insurance for me. This supplement did not cause any side effects for me like upset stomach, gas or indigestion. The size of the tablets and capsules were not overly large, and were not that difficult to swallow. (I have noticed that many store brand probiotic capsules are absolutely huge!)
I really liked this product, and if you are looking for a high quality probiotic supplement, then I highly suggest that you give Microbiome + GI Supplement a try. You can find this product on Amazon.
