Taking care of my skin is something that I am passionate about. I have been using anti-aging moisturizers and sunscreen since I was in my early 20′s and I am not ashamed to say that I think my skin is in pretty decent shape at age 41. The effects of ultraviolet light from the sun, pollutants, cosmetics and stress can wreak havoc on any person’s skin, so it’s really critical that regular cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing are part of your beauty regimen.

So you can imagine my delight when I learned I was going to review some anti-aging products from Mia Mariu!

Based in Dallas, Texas, Mia Mariu is a company who provides entrepreneurial opportunities to women to sell their health and beauty products. Their all-natural health and beauty products are exclusively available online, or through their Independent Beauty Advisers.

I was sent their Refreshing Foaming Gel Cleanser, Anti-Aging Brightening Serum, and Anti-Aging Eye Treatment to review.

 

The cleanser is a silky, lightweight product which is a great cleanser and non-irritating. It is scent-free and perfect for even the most sensitive of skin types. I found that it did a fantastic job of removing my cosmetics, and was not in the least bit drying.

The brightening serum is also a definite hit with me. I am a HUGE fan of serum products, because of the way that they even out your skin tone. For me, I compare serums to taking multi-vitamin pills in the morning. They are super concentrated pockets of vitamins and nutrients for your face. The Mia Mariu serum is a lightweight formulation, not as nectar-like in consistency as other serums I have used. The Mia Mariu serum product contains “anti-aging peptides, skin-brightening botanicals, aloe and vitamin b5″ according to their catalogue.

The Anti-Aging Eye Treatment has similar ingredients to the serum. It helps to reduce circles and wrinkles around the eyes. I have only been using the serum and eye treatment for a few weeks, so it’s hard to say what the long-term effects of the products will be on improving the appearance of the skin. However, in the short-term, I am very pleased with the Mia Mariu anti-aging products I have used, and I think that my skin looks and feels great. Their products would be ideal for any woman with sensitive skin, as their products are all-natural, and fragrance free.

We just came back from a road trip to Florida for Spring Break, and it was a two day drive. It was quite the drive, let me tell you! With a six and four year old, there were plenty of “Are we there yet?” questions as well as “Mommy, I have to go potty!”

Problem is, I HATE public restrooms with a passion. However, being on the road for two days meant that there was no getting around using  public washrooms. Some were passably clean, and some were horrible. I hate using less than clean facilities, espeicially hate my kids having to use them. UGH!

Upon returning home from our trip, I noticed a package that was sent to me called Potty Covers. Boy, I could have used this product before we left for our vacation!

So what is a Potty Cover? Basically it’s a waterproof cover that you put over a toilet which creates a barrier between the commode and your child. Its oversize design covers both the front and sides of the toilet, so when your child is dangling their legs and gripping the sides of it, you don’t have to worry about germs. It’s so easy to use. There are no adhesives strips to use. Literally, you just take it out of t he package, lay it down on the toilet, have your child do their bathroom business, and then throw the Potty Cover in the trash. No muss, no fuss.

The Potty Cover package is very compact and easily fits into a handbag or backpack. Each package contains 6 Potty Covers. I really love this product and have no doubt that I will be using them on our next road trip this summer.

I have been a fan of Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap for a long time. In fact, as soon as this product came onto the market, I hit the store immediately to buy one for our guest bathroom. My two boys are soooooo messy, and the soap dispenser in the bathroom is always a complete disaster. Their little hands try to manipulate the bottle, usually unsuccessfully, and what’s left is a liquid mess of soap all over the counter. A hands-free dispenser was a no-brainer for me.

The kids like the “magic” aspect of the product, waving their little hands in front of the dispenser, and POOF, the soap comes out. It makes them more likely to wash their hands after using the toilet, and it minimizes the mess. For that reason, we have these no-touch hand soap dispensers in 2 bathrooms in our home.

Lysol sent us a no-touch dispenser in a stainless steel finish. The mission: get our creative juices flowing, and decorate our dispenser in whatever way we liked. After talking over designs with my two boys, we decided to make ours a CANADA themed soap dispenser.

I picked up some supplies at the dollar store: red ribbon, glue stick, a pack of cut out letter stencils, markers and glittery adhesive stars of varying sizes. When we sat down to start creating, the kids were excited. All those little hands on board!

My 4 year old was afraid that he would be left out of the fun, so when I told him he would be helping out he was grinning ear to ear. We started by gluing our stencil letters to the red ribbon, CANADA. The Canada banner was wrapped around the soap dispenser like a banner. The boys took turns affixing the glittery foam stars all around the dispenser.

My 6 year old son and I made a homemade Canada flag out of red ribbon, white paper, and a hand-drawn maple leaf by yours truly. My boy colored it in and glued the Canada flag to the bottle which contains the soap at the top of the dispenser. Flying the flag proudly!

The boys were very proud of their newly anointed Canada soap dispenser. Of course, they laid claim to it immediately, and are going to be putting it into the bathroom they use upstairs. Too cool!

I have a cool giveaway to share with you, my Canadian readers! There is an innovative new laundry product that I am inviting you to try, and it’s very different from anything else I have seen out there before.

Dr. Beckmann’s Colour and Dirt Collector Sheets are small, and they look somewhat like dryer sheets. You put in the sheet in your washer, not your dryer. The cool thing about these sheets is that they trap both dirt and dye, leaving your clothes clean and bright. A practical side of this: you can put your mixed colours and whites together in the same wash load, and you will not see any bleeding of dyes on your white clothing.

I was intrigued! So I did just that: put some new-ish bright blue clothes in the washer with some whites, and a Dr. Beckmann Colour and Dirt Collector laundry sheet. It was amazing! The laundry sheet had indeed taken on the dye of the blue shirt, but my whites were completely normal, unstained, clean!!

Dr. Beckmann’s is a family owned company that has been in business since 1934. They are based in Germany, and have a full line of stain removal products that are now available in Canada.

I have 10 samples to give away, but there’s a catch! Back when my kids were littler, and at home most of the time, life seemed a little bit simpler. I was the main presence in their lives, and as such, I could easily keep track of their toys and clothes without much difficulty. Now that they are a bit older, and my one son is in grade 1, it seems like I am constantly trying to figure out where their stuff has gone.

“Where is your water bottle?” says me.

Shrug. “I don’t know.” says my charming son.

It’s been getting really annoying, as I feel like I am basically throwing money into the trash can as he loses gloves, hats, water bottles, markers, you get the picture. Time for this mom to get organized!

Enter Lovable Labels. And not a moment too soon! I was very excited to review Lovable Labels products, as I have been getting increasingly frustrated in my attempts to keep track of my kids’ stuff.

Have you heard of Lovable Labels? This company has been around since 2003, and was started by a mother (like me!) who found the need to label her child’s possessions that were being sent to day care. She developed a label product that was durable, and could withstand washing, sun exposure, and everyday use.

Lovable Labels produces a variety of products including the sticker type labels that I received. They also make clothing labels, zipper tags, medical identification bracelets and stationery products. Their household label products can be used to help organize all aspects of your home from spice drawers to craft bins.

I received some multi-purpose labels with my son’s name on them. The colors are bright, and he was able to personalize them with boy-themed graphics. We have used them for a number of things, including:

- water bottle

- colored marker case for school

- lunch box for school

- ruler

- sippy cup

The multi-purpose labels are dishwasher and microwave safe and UV resistant. I have put my son’s sippy cup through the dishwasher and the label adhered perfectly. I like the fact that the labels include both the child’s first and last name, as there are two children in my son’s class with the same name. It just makes things easier to track down. When my younger son enters Junior Kindergarten in the fall, I will be getting him his own set of Lovable Labels, and hopefully we have better luck keeping his stuff from getting lost.

You know those adorable white kittens that you see on television and boxes of tissue? Have you seen them a little more frequently as of late? Well, if so, it’s because Royale, the maker of fine Canadian paper products, is hosting an AMAZING contest! Their Golden Kitten Search contest celebrates Royale’s 50th anniversary, and for their grand prize, they are awarding $50000 cash! Who couldn’t use that kind of money!?!

At work last week, we were discussing this very topic, as the Christmas bills have everyone feeling a little pinched. It’s so much FUN dreaming about what you might do with some mad money. And the Royale $50000 grand prize is a nice chunk of change to be sure. There are lots of amazing things that I could do with some extra money, that’s for sure.

So here are my thoughts: if I am so fortunate as to win the grand prize, I have a few plans in mind. So here they are, in no particular order.

1. Put some money in my kids’ RESP account. Because college education is definitely not getting any cheaper, that’s for sure.

2. Pay off some credit card debt. That’s definitely not a sexy way to spend a cash prize, but it would definitely free up cash down the road. Then cut up all my credit cards, except one.

3. Put some carpet in our downstairs playroom. Our basement is only partially finished, and a carpeted area for the boys to play would be both safer, and more comfortable for them.

4. Build a deck in our backyard. When we built this house, a lot of “extras” didn’t get finished, like a driveway, basement and a backyard patio due the money running out. We would love to enjoy our backyard with a patio and gazebo!

 5. Take the kids on a cruise. We have always wanted to take the kids on a Disney cruise, but that’s not happening in our near future without a little bit of pixie dust…or a prize win!!

Do your kids like bath time? My boys absolutely love having a bath, and it’s one of the more enjoyable parts of the day for me. The kids love getting lathered up, and scrubbed down using their own “kid-flavored” body washes, shampoos and sponges.

So I was thrilled to receive a bottle of TruBaby Bubbly Baby Body & Hair Wash to review. My older son was enamored with the packaging and eager to try it out.

TruBaby body and hair wash is made by a California company called TruKid. This company’s philosophy focuses on the production of sustainable, environmentally friendly personal grooming products. TruKid’s products are biodegradable, organic formulas which are designed to soothe and nurture a young child’s delicate skin.

TruKid’s products are brightly colored, and incidentally, color coded to help your child understand his/her personal grooming rituals. Blue bottles are for bathing, green for nourishing, and orange for sun protection.

As I read more about TruKid’s company philosophy, I felt very comfortable using the body and hair wash for my boys’ bath. My younger son has very sensitive skin, so I am careful not use products with harsh chemicals or fragrance.

The body and hair wash was a hit. My older son loved using it straight away, and said that he liked the smell. The fragrance was delicate, but not overpowering. The pump dispenser enables you to dispense just the right amount on a facecloth or bath sponge.
